Just last year India made it much easier to apply for an online visa, after filling it out and uploading a picture of yourself and your passport's first page, you will be all set to receive you actual visa stamp upon arrival. The window for applying is between 4 and 30 days before your scheduled arrival, so don't apply too early, or to late either. go here to fill out the application.
